Dance Machines - From gramophones to jukeboxes: dance your way through (local) history!
On view since 19 September 2026
Whether it’s the Charleston in the Roaring Twenties, rock ‘n’ roll in the post-war boom era or pub jives after work, music machines have always acted as engines of movement and social upheaval while also offering an escape from the daily grind. In “Dance Machines”, the Museum of Music Automatons turns the spotlight on the irresistible cultural history of mechanical dance music and the defining role it played in Switzerland.
The exhibition is dedicated to the mechanical beat-makers that conquered Swiss dance floors, smashed traditions and left an indelible mark on youth culture.
The showstopper: at the interactive Twist Station, visitors determine the rhythm – their dance moves set the whole room in motion.
